Should I use the NRT products to extend the MSL record?

GMSL extension with NRT products and corrections

The DUACS Near Real Time (NRT) products are less accurate than the DT products due to the different quality of the L2P altimeter products used as input data (orbit solutions, geophysical correction and calibration) and also because part of the DUACS processing requires centered temporal processing window which is not available in NRT conditions. For these reasons, it is not recommended to use the NRT products for climate studies and in particular for the completion of the GMSL time series closed to present time. Indeed, some biases can be found at the DT/NRT transition, especially for the computation of area-averaged MSL (see the ‘Altimetry errors‘ webpage).
